Professional Certificate for Director of Special Education

 

Career Goal

If you are a special educator and administration is your cup of tea, you want to have district-wide impact on the programs and services provided to students with disabilities, you want to move up the ladder, be in a leadership position, be located  in the Central Office, and rub shoulders with the superintendent and other higher level administrators in your school district this certification program is for you.

 

Program Requirements

The 15 credit hours of graduate course work consists of an introductory course in administration (EAD 801), two courses with heavy emphasis in special education statutes, laws, regulations, procedures, etc. (SED 810 and SED 814), and a six credit hour of practicum in special education administration (SED 816).  For the exact titles and brief description of courses please refer to the Special Education Section, College of Education, in EKU Graduate Catalog.

Admission Requirements

§         A valid Kentucky certificate for teachers of exceptional children (including speech-language pathologists) or for school psychologists. Three years of experience as a full-time teacher of exceptional children or speech    language pathologist and/or three years of experience as a full-time school psychologist.

§         A minimum of a master’s degree or planned fifth year program.

§         Pre-requisite courses: SED 775 or SED 800, SED 790, SED 804 or SED 806 or SED 809, SED 886.

Two for the price of one

Credit hours for the courses in this program can be counted toward a Rank I certification.

You can work simultaneously on the Director of Special Education and a Rank I certification.
