Learning and Behavior Disorders Certification

The prerequisites are an undergraduate degree and KY Provisional Teaching Certificate in P-5, 5-9, or High School for classroom teachers. Also, candidates must have completed the following or equivalent prerequisite course work.

Prerequisite Courses ------------------------------------------ 12 Hours

ELE 445 or EMG 445 Foundation of Reading/Language Arts
EMG 447 or 806 Reading/Language Arts in the Middle Grades
MAT 201 Mathematical Concepts for Middle and Elementary School Teachers I
MAT 202 Mathematical Concepts for Middle and Elementary School Teachers II

SED 722 Language Disorders of Students with Disablities
SED 775 Nature and Needs of Exceptional Students
SED 776 Introduction to Special Education Assessment
SED 778 Behavior Disorders
SED 356 or SED 856 Special Education Methods and Materials
SED 745 Program and Personnel Management
SED 774* Field Experiences with Exceptional Learners
SED 790 Applied Behavior Analysis
SED 791  
SED 793 Teaching Students with Learning and Behavior Disorders
SED 897 Practicum in Special Education


Note: Completion of the above program will not suffice for completion of Rank program. For LBD Certification, the PRAXIS test in the area of a specialty must be passed

*SED 774 can be waived with one year of successful teaching of candidates with LBD
